TANZANIA SAFARI & KILIMANJARO CLIMB - PACKING LIST

General Safari Packing List:

Clothing:
• Long sleeved lightweight shirt for protection from the sun
• Sweater/ jacket and pants for cold temperatures experienced at night
• Hat
• Bathing suit (those staying in lodge/hotel with a swimming pool & would want to swim or at the beach)
• Socks
• Belt
• Sandals for wear during safari
• Lightweight hiking shoes
• One nice pair of shoes
• Short pants
• Sunglasses
• Reading glasses (if you wear contacts bring glasses as it can be very dusty)
• Remember: Bring enough clothing for the entire safari

Personal Items:
• Sleeping bag (if on a camping safari)
• Sunscreen/ Sun block
• Lip sun block
• Toiletries such as toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo
• Ziploc bags for camera and toiletries
• Ibuprofen
• Bug repellant

Other Items:
• Camera and film. 300 mm lens recommended. Bring plenty of film as you might not be able to find the desired speed or brand We recommend at least 3 rolls of film per day on safari.
• Extra camera batteries
• Flashlight
• Binoculars for personal use (some safari vehicles may have a pair)
• Locks for baggage
• Video camera
• Travelers checks or currency
• Wildlife guide books
• Small backpack
• Money belt
• Snacks

CAUTION - Zanzibar:
If going to Zanzibar, please be advised that it has a high Muslim population, and long dresses are strongly recommended. Try to avoid clothes that show much of your body, or “skin-tight" clothes unless you are at the beach. Muslims are more often offended by seeing skimpy clothing.

KILIMANJARO CLIMBING PACKING LIST

* waterproof rucksack & daypack (optional waterproof cover)
* Sleeping Bag (comfort temperature down to -10 degrees Celsius)
* inflatable sleeping pad/mat
* Hiking Boots: This is the most important item on the list. You'll need a comfortable/waterproof pair of hiking boots which offer plenty of support. Make sure they are broken in before you get to Kilimanjaro! Light trainers might also be useful
* warm heavy weight gloves/mittens
* wide brimmed hat
* warm scarf
* snow-googles/sunglasses
* sweaters/jumpers
* trekking pants and jacket (wind- and waterproof)
* long sleeved shirts
* 2 to 3 pairs of shorts
* several pairs of socks
* set of thermal underwear (top & bottom)
* sun protection cream
* 2 x 2 litres water bottles (camel bags preferably)
* headlamp(plus spare batteries & bulb)
* first aid kit and insect repellants
* toiletry requirements
* water purification tablets
* walking poles
* waterproof anorak or raincoat
* pair of gaiters
* balaclava (woollen sock that fits over the head with slits for only the eyes and mouth)
* pair of light loose fitting cotton trousers
* warm jersey/sweater (wool)
* 2 - 3 packets of moist towelettes.
* whistle
* some plastic bags
* roll mats and insolation pads
* travel pillow
* Swiss army knife, stuff to fix the sleeping mat, journal and pen, duck tape
